According to the dictionary, it is a person who sets up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit.
My son was asked to do a project at school to explain “What is an entrepreneur?”
He asked if I could give him an example. I took less than a second to reply, why not your Grandfather and Grandmother?
You see my Father and Mother started Specialty Metals around 30 years ago with a handful of dollars to their name, a huge mortgage and two kids.
By definition, I am pretty sure that what they did completely covered all of those bases from the dictionary.
Supplying welding consumables - here is what you really think of us
Over the months we have told you a lot about how we focus on customer service and delivering your order quickly and within minimal fuss. Whether you are looking for stainless steel, titanium, exotic metals or a specific MIG welding wire, we have told you that we can help. We have also told you that we can source those difficult to find metals, TIG, MIG, filler wire and other welding consumables.
But what do our customers really think of us?
Sometime ago we have decided to turn our blog over to one of our customers and find out what they really think of our service.
Solving your need for welding consumables
Gary Lantzke is the CEO of Callidus Welding Solutions Pty Ltd. Specialising in process and welding solutions all across the world, Callidus Welding Solutions are looking for reliable service and excellent quality products.
“I started my business 13 years ago. At that time Specialty Metals were one of the only places in Australia that stocked and sold titanium as a welding consumable. They had the foresight to see that this would be a product in need as the industry evolved.
At Callidus Welding Solutions we work with HPAL extraction of nickel and gold, pressure oxidisation, oil and gas processors and cryogenic processors all across the world. We have a real need for good quality products and welding consumables delivered on time, every time.
Over the years Specialty Metals have proven themselves to be helpful, prompt and personable. They have always been a company that will talk to you and take an interest in your business not just a sale. This means they really understand our business and can therefore better serve our needs.”
Welding consumables stock
At Specialty Metals we keep a large range of welding consumables (including MIG, TIG, filler wire, stainless, carbon, nickel and titanium based) in stock ready for immediate shipment and delivery.

Sourcing those hard to find metals
Selling and delivering filler wire and consumable supplies that you have in the warehouse is easy. But when a customer has a need for a product that is exotic or unusual, we believe it is our duty to do our best to deliver.
“One of the greatest strengths that Specialty Metals have above all others in the WA metals market is their ability to find those one off orders or more unusual or highly specialised metals that we need in our business. They have a vast range of contacts across the world and go out of their way to find what we need. They get it for me, tell me when I can have it and how much it will cost. They always follow through so that I am fully up-to-date and informed.
I can rely on them to take the trouble to help us out which means that I can then deliver to my customers the solutions that they are looking for. Specialty Metals enable us to do our job. They have a great knowledge of where to get their product.”
Welding consumables: from stainless MIG wires to exotic orders – would you recommend us?
“If you need that one off order or something uniquely special and you want to be kept up-to-date and have a company follow through with you and really look after you I always say ‘speak to Specialty Metals’.
I would have no hesitation in recommending them. They bring service to life.”
